2024 is #ZMM50 #ZMM50th!
2024 is the 50th anniversary (#ZMM50 #ZMM50th) of the publication of Robert Pirsig’s modern classic Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: An Inquiry into Values. As part of the nationwide commemoration of this milestone, this summer I will be teaching two related online courses that can be taken independently or together.
Pirsig’s Progress: Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance
as a Modern Spiritual Journey
Offered through the University of Chicago Graham School of Continuing Liberal and Professional Studies, this course consists of a close reading of Pirsig’s novel in conjunction with a close reading of Plato’s Phaedrus.

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance Sidecar
This private course is a synchronized supplement to a parallel reading of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance (done either in a course or on one’s own). As such, it functions something like a sidecar to a motorcycle. Contact me for more information and/or to inquire about possible participation (mentioning “Sidecar” in the Subject line).
